Makeup Monday >> Perfect Palette Tag

I thought this would be a fun beauty-related post to kick off the new year so I decided to tag myself! Here are some of my favorite (and not-so-favorite) palettes and why...

1. Best Packaging
When I think of good packaging, I think of design and durability. The winner of this category would have to be the Urban Decay Face Case (Anarchy & Shattered) that was released a few months ago as part of their holiday collection. These are great because it comes with everything you need to complete a look all in one small package -- 5 eyeshadows, 2 blushes, 1 eyeliner, 1 lip pencil, and 1 highlighter. The design of the package is sleek, well thought out with the two compartments and two mirrors -- making it easier for application -- and it is quite sturdy. I also like how the lip product is a lip pencil and not those lip glosses that companies usually put next to the blush -- i just hate it -- it gets messy and no one has time to find a lip brush and etc. I have the Anarchy palette and I instantly fell in love with the eyeshadows when I first saw it (Vaporize is my favorite), which are extremely pigmented by the way. Overall, great packaging for the girl-on-the-go and those who travel a lot.

2. Best Color Payoff
This category was difficult to choose one winner because many of the palettes I own have great color payoff but the Urban Decay eyeshadows have consistently been great with their new formulation, therefore the winner of this category goes to the Urban Decay Build Your Own Palette. Since all the UD eyeshadows are so great, it's easy/fun to choose the ones you love most and incorporate it into your own personalized palette. UD no longer sells the 6-pan version but the 4-pan version is still great. I have the colors Walk of Shame (came with the palette), Loaded, Mushroom, Stray Dog, Verve, and Psychedelic Sister.

3. Most Versatile
The winner of this category would have to be the Urban Decay Naked Palette (any of the Naked palettes would qualify but I love #1 the most). This palette is so versatile because you have enough light and dark shades to create either a natural day-to-day look or a dramatic, smoky-eye, evening look. You can bring this palette anywhere and everywhere and you can create an appropriate look for the occasion at hand.

4. Best for Travel
The winner for this category is the Too Faced A Few of My Favorite Things Palette. This palette has everything you need with a wide selection of eyeshadows and several blushes/bronzers for a complete look. The packaging is sleek/slim which won't take up a lot of space in your carry-on. I also think this palette is great for travel because it has neutral shades and some pops of color so you're ready for any type of vacation -- whether it's a relaxing beach getaway or a wild Vegas party with your girlfriends.

5. Biggest Regret
I'm sad to think that I actually regret one of my purchases but it's true.. when you don't use the palette more than 5 times in one year it's safe to say that you probably could have used the money towards a more useful palette. The winner (or should I say loser) of this category is the Nordstrom Color Basics palette I purchased a few years ago during the holidays. It seemed like a very useful and handy palette to add to my collection but the color payoff wasn't great and I had a hard time deciding what color to use -- sounds strange but when there are so many to look at, I get overwhelmed. Also, I never use the lip colors when they come like that because I am just not a fan -- the powders and the sticky lip glosses are just a mess. However, this has come in handy when I needed to create a party look and needed some wild color like kelly green and this palette did have the closest shade..

6. Best Color Names
The winner(s) of this category would be the Too Faced A Few of My Favorite Things Palette and the NARS Guy Bourdin Holiday Collection Limited Edition One Night Stand Cheek Palette. In terms of eyeshadows, the Too Faced palette were just too adorable -- following the cutest holiday song -- my favorites include Whiskers on Kittens, Cream Colored Ponies, Crisp Apple Strudel, and Blue Satin Sashes. The NARS cheek palette has some truly strange names but it is creative and I will give them props for that. The best/strangest ones are Orgasm and Deep Throat.

7. Least Used
My least used palettes are some that were gifted to me -- I'm sorry but it just so happens that no one knows you better than yourself -- and since I do appreciate the gift, I don't want to throw it away. Therefore, the winner of this category is the Urban Decay The Feminine Palette. I simply use this one the least because I already have some similar shades in my other palettes and this one is quite glittery for my taste (I think it's because these came out pre-new-formulation). And it's strange that I was gifted this twice..

8. Most Used/Most Loved
A few weeks ago I would have chosen the UD Naked palette as my most used/loved but ever since I got the Too Faced AFOMFT palette I just can't live without it. I'm just obsessed with it and I can't wait to create more looks with this palette. The colors are so creamy and satiny, they make blending a breeze.

And those are all the winners! I hope you enjoyed this long post and feel free to comment on which palettes are your favorite!
