Food Friday >> Ramen Parlor

Last month, my friends and I decided to get ramen for dinner (without reservations/last minute decision) in San Mateo. There are several popular ramen places in San Mateo to choose from -- Ramen Dojo, Santa Ramen, and Himawari -- just to name a few. But since I've never tried Ramen Dojo, we decided to head there first. While driving down B Street, I noticed the enormous crowd standing outside and I knew that my grumbling stomach would not be satiated anytime soon. My friend suggested the less popular/known place Ramen Parlor just down the street and I was hopeful that ramen would be available to me soon.

There was a small crowd outside+half hour wait but I didn't mind because I had trouble deciding what to get, so I needed the extra time to peruse the menu. Prices were reasonable/expected for a ramen restaurant (around $9/bowl) but if you want any of the toppings/add-ons, your ramen bowl could easily exceed to $15. The waiter calling out names also took orders prior to us getting seated which made the entire process very streamlined/efficient.

I decided to get the classic ramen+pork flavor (because I am allergic to shellfish) and my friends ordered the parlor ramen+garlic lobster pork flavor.

I must admit, this was one of the best ramen bowls I've tried! I especially enjoyed the pork broth and the plentiful veggies it came with. The parlor ramen bowls come with soft shell crab which was delicious (my friend gave me a crab leg to try) and the black garlic broth was very flavorful as well. I still prefer the classic ramen+pork flavor though because like I said, I am allergic to shellfish, and the pork broth was not too salty for my taste.

The only downside to this place is that they do not serve hot tea.. which is a big no no in my book because I need the tea to help sooth my belly after such a salty/oily meal.
