What's Up Wednesday >> First Date Tag

Hi everyone! I saw this tag on YouTube and thought it would be fun to partake in. Even though I haven't been on a first date in over seven years... I still think everyone should have certain expectations for a first date. And for all my single ladies/fellas out there, first impressions are very important and the first date can literally be a make it or break it moment - stop thinking about what ifs and just be present in the moment. Enjoy getting to know the person and the date will go on smoothly. Now let's get into the questions!

1. How long does it take you to get ready for a date?
Anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes - depends on whether I've showered already or if I want to curl my hair or not (depends on what we are doing/where we are going).

2. What's your idea of a perfect first date?
a) Dinner
b) Drinks
c) Cinema
d) Adventurous dates
Perfect date for me would be dinner and a movie. Since I'm not much of a drinker I would probably just order one drink during dinner then get kettle corn at the theater.

3. What would you gravitate more towards to wear on a date?
a) Jeans
b) Trousers
c) Skirt
d) Dress
Again, depends on what we are doing and where we are going. Here are some examples of what I would wear for a casual first date and a formal first date.

4. On the date of your choice what makeup would you wear?
a) Girl next door
b) Smokey and sexy
c) Bold lip
d) Brights
Save the sexy for the second date! Got to keep them wanting more.

5. Your date says you have half an hour to be ready what do you do?
Reschedule. If there's one thing I hate when getting ready it's being rushed. I do not appreciate the sense of urgency and it would be better if the guy planned something out ahead of time. Don't schedule me into your life last minute.

6. Your date asks for the bill, do you..
a) Offer to pay - with actual meaning to pay
b) Make a fake fuss - with no intention of paying
c) Expect him to pay straight away
On a first date we probably don't know each other very well so it's more like eating out with a friend. I would offer to pay my share but if he insists, then by all means, be a gentleman.

6.5 Do you go out with him again?
Whether he does or doesn't pay on the first date shows a lot about his character, tendencies, and stability. But it really depends if there's a connection. If there's no connection then sorry bud, you won't hear from me again.

7. It's time to say goodbye and you really like your date, do you..
a) Wave
b) Hug
c) Kiss on the cheek
d) Peck
e) Full on smooch
I would give the guy a genuine hug and thank him for taking me out. If the date didn't go so well then maybe a side hug because it establishes more of a friend zone.

Food Friday >> Kamu Sushi

I'm so excited to share this new place with you all. It just opened in South San Francisco and it's fast becoming one of my new favorite sushi restaurants. It's a really small place (max occupancy is 30) but the food quality and presentation is just amazing. It's BETTER than Amami because all the fish and meat is fresh and organic! I happen to know the owner so I know this to be true! He wakes up every morning to buy the fish himself and he spent 10 months renovating the place himself -- such dedication. His commitment to the restaurant's brand and character can also be seen on the wooden serving plates, which has Kamu Sushi engraved on it. The staff is very friendly and they even offer you tea/water when you're waiting outside. My only complaint is that since this place is so small, wait times might be an issue if you come during a busy time, and the wait for food to come out can be a bit long as well. But, it's absolutely worth the wait! Now without any further a due, let's get into the food!
Kumamoto Oysters
We ordered a dozen oysters and they were so delicious and creamy. The jelly stuff is a yuzu sauce and it's topped with a bit of kelp caviar.
Himalayan Salted Kama
My family loves hamachi Kama. We always order this dish whenever we eat at a Japanese restaurant. When judging this dish, I always look for texture and flavor - the meat wasn't tough, but moist and juicy - and the flavor is usually just lightly salted but the Himalayan salt block underneath gave it an added salty flavor - very well executed.
Yamaimo Uni
I usually do not order uni but my sister highly recommended this dish so I decided to try it. It was absolutely amazing! Melts in your mouth!!
Smok'in Sake Belly
This was probably the most interactive and interesting dish in my opinion. The salmon belly is smoked inside the glass orb with applewood smoke. After a few minutes, you remove the glass and lay the salmon belly flat on the Himalayan salt block - the smoky flavor and the melted salt gives the salmon such unique flavor that it is recommended that you do not eat it with soy sauce. We ordered two. Must try!
Hotate (scallop) Sashimi
Very delicious and fresh. It did not have that nasty ocean flavor so you can definitely taste the scallop flavor and the texture was creamy and somewhat crunchy (not mushy).
Wagyu On Fire
This sushi roll had great flavor. The sauce is lit on fire and when the flame dies out, you pour some soy sauce into the dish, then you pour the mixture on top of the roll. Overall, very tasty!
Cast Iron Pan Sea Bass
This was my least favorite dish because it was a bit bland. However, if you like eating cooked fish instead of raw fish then I would recommend you get this because the sauce is different than the usual oyster sauce/soy sauce/sugar/black bean sauce that the other restaurants use.
Hamachi Belly Sashimi
So good! Melts in your mouth!
Albacore (White Tuna) Belly Tataki
Surprisingly very tasty and great texture! I normally would not order this fish because I don't really like tuna nor the texture, but the combination of the sauce, scallions, tobiko, and pepper added great flavor to the slightly seared fish.

We also ordered two Dragon Rolls, which were also very good! I liked how the shrimp tempura inside was still crunchy when you bite into it, the avocado was fresh (green), and the eel was very tasty (not mushy and full of bones). Another cool thing about this place is that you can create your own sushi roll - perfect for those who know just what they want inside/outside their sushi rolls - another great interactive dish. We also ordered three orders of the tobiko nigiri (my sisters' favorite) and an order of the Shoyu Garlic Edamame. We were absolutely stuffed by the end of the night!

No desserts yet but they're working on that. The owner/chef said they're trying to create a healthy dessert than fits into the Kamu menu. I suggested ice cream but he said no - "too fat". I guess I'll have to go back and see what he comes up with!

If you want quality over quantity, and you don't mind paying for it, this is definitely the place for you!

Makeup Monday >> Marc Jacobs Style Eye-Con No. 7 The Siren

Sorry for the long hiatus! I hope to keep the posts coming regularly again.
Today I'll be sharing my thoughts on the Marc Jacobs Style Eye-Con No.7 The Siren 210 eyeshadow palette. It may look intimidating at first but the colors are not as vibrant and loud as some other eyeshadows, making this palette very wearable.

First of all, let me just tell you that the packaging looks and feels so luxurious. The other Style Eye-Con No. 7 palettes are usually black but this one comes in white because it is limited edition I believe.
I love how all the Marc Jacobs Style Eye-Con palettes come with a velvet pouch. It prevents it from getting dirty while traveling and makes it seem extra special.
Sleek and slim. Love the white. Secure button closure.
I also like how it comes with a divider so that the eyeshadow fallout doesn't get onto the mirror.

Like I mentioned before, the colors are not very pigmented - which can be a good or bad thing - depending on what you're looking for specifically. If you want great color payout I would not suggest you get this. But if you want to try wearing more colors in a subtle and wearable way then I would suggest this palette. The texture is very smooth and fine, it blends quite easily, and the shimmers/glitters do not appear chunky.
It literally looks like a paint palette. Fun colors perfect for summer. These colors will be great for creating Halloween looks.
What drew me to this palette were the unique colors - I don't have any reds or oranges and cobalt blues. The white and marigold shade are wonderful highlight shades. The red and copper shades can be used to create a warm smoky eye with some neutral browns. The sea foam and cobalt shade are great for lining your lower lash line. And the sea smoke color is great for creating a cool smokey eye look.
After swatching them on my arm, I could see the sheen finish more clearly. Each color has a somewhat pearl finish - but the copper and marigold colors had the most shimmering effect, and the sea smoke had tiny specs of glitter, which was delightfully surprising to me.
I also swatched some similar colors from Urban Decay so that you could see the vibrancy differences and color comparisons. Again, you can see that the Marc Jacob eyeshadows are less pigmented and shimmery - which makes them more wearable for an everyday look.

Overall, I really love this palette because it's so special and unique - none of my palettes are like this one at all. I am excited to play with this more and create some makeup looks so that you can see how they look on the eyes. If you want to start wearing color and you like higher end makeup then this would be a great addition to your collection!
